How can we look like a genuine couple even when there’s a significant age gap? I’ve tried dressing more maturely, but it still doesn’t quite work. Should I change my hairstyle or makeup? I’d appreciate it if you could share some specific examples I can use as a reference.

I’m a male member, BB7. Unless you look considerably older than you are, or your papa is freakishly youthful-looking, I don’t think it’s possible. If you both drop the polite language and act distant and quiet throughout the meal, people might assume you’re parent and child. But meeting while worrying that much about what other people think sounds pretty boring.

I’m だて◎ゆめ, a male member. Personally, I don’t think there’s any need to force things to look like a real couple when there’s a big age gap. It’s perfectly fine to treat it more like spending time with your boss or someone you know.

I’m Aya, a female member. I used to struggle with the same thing. But as we gradually got closer, we started talking more casually and using informal speech, so, as someone else mentioned, the awkward distance between us faded and things got a little better. That’s how it is with my long-term papa. I think it also depends on the papa’s appearance. No matter how mature you try to look, if your papa has a very stereotypical look, it’s going to be difficult, right? And if he prefers women who speak politely, I feel like the two of you are less likely to look like a couple. As for my clothes, I try not to wear anything overly frilly or high heels—like 10 cm heels—because they’re not really fashionable anymore, and when an ordinary woman wears them, she can end up looking like a hostess-club worker. I try to keep things simple and understated, without using too many colors.

I’m Maezawa from the president’s office, and I’ll answer this too. I think there are plenty of couples with a significant age gap. A famous example is Cha Katō. If both people carry themselves confidently, others will probably just assume they’re a married couple with an age difference. Couples who seem somewhat distant may look like they’re pretending. That said, being overly affectionate probably isn’t ideal either. If you can maintain a perfect balance—not too close, but not too distant—you may come across as a genuine couple. It might help to take cues from married couples you see around you.

I’m Paper Airplane, a male member. When you’re a couple, you’ll go on dates in everyday clothes, sometimes even sweatshirts or tracksuits, and people may mistake you for parent and child. So I think it’s fine to wear what you’d normally wear when going out with friends or family, or what you’d wear at home. If an allowance is involved, you could dress just a little more stylishly than usual. That said, the fact that you’re worrying this much about it makes me feel like it might be difficult for you, just judging by the overall vibe…

I’m Kazu, a male member. Just as a woman in her 50s can’t possibly pass for someone in her 20s, a woman in her 20s can’t possibly look like she’s in her 50s. If you stop worrying about what people around you think and carry yourselves confidently, you’re more likely to look like a genuine couple.
