Maezawa from the President’s Office will answer this as well.
Let’s think carefully about the Japanese wording.
“Essentially a boyfriend” means that he isn’t actually your boyfriend.
The premise is that he’s not your boyfriend, but that in practice, the two of you have a relationship similar to one.
So it’s perfectly fine for you to have another boyfriend.
He’ll be satisfied as long as you treat him like your boyfriend while you’re together.
In the first place, I think this conversation only comes up because the two of you are intimate. Since women have the right to refuse, I assume he’s someone you felt comfortable enough with to have that kind of relationship.
If so, what he’s looking for is for the two of you to act like a couple, at least while you’re together.
I imagine what you’re looking for from him is money.
But if you think of it as both of you responding to what the other person wants, I think you’ll naturally know what to do.

I’m in Seattle.
Any older guy who says something like that is an idiot, so say:
“Yeah, sure—think of me as your girlfriend ❤️. For my birthday, I’d love ○○←something really expensive→, and then I can sell it on Mercari. I’ve always wanted one.”
Papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) is about deceiving him, getting him into bed, and saving around 10 million yen.

If someone says something like that, the normal response is, “Like hell it is, you bald bastard!”
A comedy routine doesn’t work unless you play off the setup. Otherwise, the guy making the joke is left hanging. And even if he wasn’t joking, you can still use the same line. If he argues, “I’m not bald,” just yank out some of his hair.
If you want service exactly the way you want it, go to a sex-work establishment. From the woman’s perspective, that’s about working hard to provide the services men want in exchange for money.
That’s not why we’re doing this. We’re doing it because we want to have some kind of relationship between two real human beings. There’s absolutely no need to pretend to be someone you’re not. Relationships between people normally don’t go exactly as planned. They continue and deepen because both sides try to find some point of connection despite that.
Stay true to yourself. Don’t panic when someone just doesn’t get it. You can cut them off cleanly, but if they have good qualities—like being generous or having a good personality—don’t reject them right away. Work on training them.

I don’t think you should overthink it. Just be yourself!
It’s simply dating an older man. He’s just one of the many people in your life.

If you’re not into older men, papa-katsu probably isn’t for you. Why not try seinen-katsu or aniki-katsu instead...?

For someone doing papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) as a teenager, I wonder if it feels less like “creating a sense of romance, becoming intimate, and receiving money” and more like working as a rental girlfriend or in the adult entertainment industry—selling your time by the hour.
Doesn’t that get a little exhausting? Please don’t push yourself too hard.

The whole point is to make them dream.
But I definitely wouldn’t want to hear that old guy saying it to you, the person asking the question. I couldn’t stop laughing.

This is dating, not a job, so if you don’t like it, you can simply walk away. There’s no need to treat her as your girlfriend.

That’s right. Let’s steel ourselves.
At this point, why not really play the part—so much that even you end up laughing at yourself?
