Through various connections, I got to know a woman who runs a factory. Apparently, it has a good reputation in a certain local industry, but the women who work there are fascinating. One is a married woman who has had cosmetic surgery and breast augmentation. She openly declares, “I only have affairs with wealthy men. I don’t want anyone who can’t buy me a Gucci bag,” and she actually does exactly that—she only has affairs with men who have money. I believe she was in her early forties. When I saw her face, I could tell, “Ah, that’s definitely a surgically enhanced look,” but she was still attractive and cute. Another woman ran away from home at 18 or 19 and moved from one male friend’s—or boyfriend’s?—house to another, repeatedly getting meals and a place to stay in exchange for sex. She’s now in her mid-thirties, and apparently, when she was 21, she happened to become pregnant after having sex with the man who let her stay at his place. She decided, “Oh, then I guess we should get married,” and married him just like that. She said she didn’t have any romantic feelings for him. Hearing these stories even made me think that I’m still a pretty ordinary person and perhaps lacking in a spirit of adventure.
