Last night was my second date with the girl I matched with at Universal Studios Japan. Beforehand, I asked, “What would you like to eat?” and she replied, “Pasta or udon would be nice.” Choose the correct answer from the options below. Assume that she is a slim college student and a Type B in terms of the relationship style. A: If she says “pasta or udon,” then it’s “pasta” over “udon,” meaning she really wants to go to a stylish Italian restaurant. She’s 19, so of course she wants to eat somewhere fashionable. I should take her to a chic Italian restaurant. B: She has a small appetite, and noodles are probably the only thing she can manage to eat, one strand at a time. What she really wants is to skip the meal and go straight to the hotel to take care of business. I should head directly to the hotel. C: What she really wants is ramen. She actually loves ramen and enjoys both light and rich broths. But saying “ramen” outright felt a little difficult, so she settled for the next-best wording: “pasta or udon.” The right answer is to take her to a good ramen shop. D: Since she’s a Type B, she really wants to have a leisurely conversation over a full-course meal. But this papa (a male supporter) didn’t inspire much confidence: on their first date, he moved them to a hotel after barely 15 minutes of tea, without even having a proper meal. If she says “pasta or udon,” at least he probably won’t take her to a smoky izakaya. If I take her to a French or Japanese restaurant for a full-course meal, she’ll be 30% more attentive with her favors.
