I’m Flag Maker, a column writer.
I lost weight during the few months of the state of emergency, and then, on a date afterward, a woman said to me:
“Oh! You’ve gotten thinner, right?”
Well, for someone who’s already self-conscious about going bald, mistaking “lost weight” for “thinned out” is pretty much the worst thing you could say, lol.

Nothing in particular. No one has ever said anything like that to me.
If I had to pick something, it would be when I brought up how much allowance to offer a Type B woman the next time we met. I wasn’t talking about the allowance for an adult relationship (intimate), but she asked, “Is that the allowance for sex?” It caught me off guard.
Writing this reminded me of something else. Early after joining, I asked a woman I went on a date with how much allowance she wanted, and she said “two ten-thousand-yen bills.” I didn’t feel she was worth paying that much, so I said, “I’m sorry, but I don’t think I can do that,” and tried to end the date. She got annoyed and said, “I’m not lowering it,” even though I hadn’t tried to haggle. I felt a little uncomfortable because it seemed like we weren’t even having the same conversation.
Maybe she was hurt because she felt I was denying that her value in an adult relationship (intimate) was worth 20,000 yen, but even now I’m not really sure where that preemptive comment came from (laughs).
I’ve gone on long enough, but all of that has faded into the background compared with Riichi’s answer. That was the biggest shock of the day. (笑)
