I’m Adventure Merchant, a column writer. Once a relationship has continued for a while and we’ve grown closer, I often move to a monthly arrangement. It usually goes something like this: “For ¥〇〇 per month, let’s meet at least 〇 times and spend some unhurried time together in an adult relationship (intimate). If we want to meet briefly for tea or a meal outside of that, let’s leave it up to how we both feel.” The reasons for doing this are as follows: 1. Even when both people are dating with a level of emotional closeness approaching that of a genuine couple, exchanging cash every time they meet can leave some women with complicated feelings. (I personally don’t mind it.) 2. From the woman’s perspective, she may budget her money on the assumption that the man has said, “Let’s meet 〇 times next month,” and that she’ll receive the corresponding allowance. So it must happen fairly often that the man later says, “Actually, I can’t.” With a monthly arrangement, receiving a set amount on a set date each month gives her peace of mind financially. 3. Things may start with terms such as a certain amount for an adult relationship (intimate) and another amount for dinner only (no intimacy). But as the relationship continues and begins to feel more like that of a genuine couple, the man may think, “Even if we don’t have an adult relationship (intimate) the agreed number of times, I still want to support her with a set monthly amount.” With a monthly arrangement, it’s easier to be flexible about how often you meet and how often you have an adult relationship (intimate). (Of course, sometimes I end up with a woman who thinks, “I’ll get the full amount anyway, so I don’t really need to make much effort to find time to meet.” When that happens, I feel extremely sad, lose interest all at once, and say goodbye.) 4. If a woman genuinely wants to see the man and sends a message like, “I have some free time today—would you like to get a meal together?”, not having a monthly arrangement can make her hesitant to invite him because the question of what to do about the pay-per-meeting allowance comes up. With a monthly arrangement, it’s easier for both people to invite and be invited based on their genuine feelings. 5. For example, if she says, “I have 30 minutes free. I’d like to see you, even if it’s just for tea,” you may have to decide whether that counts as one meal’s allowance, or how many minutes are needed for it to count as one meeting. With a monthly arrangement, situations like that can be included in the overall arrangement, which makes things easier. 6. When going on a trip, both people may wonder whether the woman should receive two days’ worth of allowance. With a monthly arrangement, it’s easier to view the trip as being included in the monthly amount. Those are the points that came to mind off the top of my head.

I’m a male member from Seattle. When things have been going well with a woman for a long time, I sometimes switch to a monthly arrangement so she can have more financial stability. But if she already has several papas, would being tied down like that feel more burdensome than helpful?
