Papa-katsu in your early 30s…
Seems kind of wasteful.
You’d probably be able to date even without an allowance.
Unless he’s seriously lacking in other areas. I wasn’t popular either, but even I wasn’t paying money for this at that age.
Maybe it’s just the times we live in.
Generally speaking, unless he’s a business owner—or running some hot startup—I doubt he has that much disposable income.
If a guy in his 30s has money, women will probably be drawn to him even without papa-katsu. Women have a pretty amazing sense for that kind of thing.
There are going rates for hostess clubs and soaplands, but what exactly is the going rate for an allowance in papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan)?
I’d understand asking how much someone can spend on papa-katsu, but…
I think a man’s income and how much he spends on other things matter more than his age.
At dating clubs, many men earn over ¥10 million a year. For example, if a man earns ¥10 million, lives a fairly ordinary lifestyle, and has neither a wife nor children, I’d estimate that he could spend around ¥300,000 a month on a woman.
If he meets her once a week, that works out to:
¥300,000 ÷ 4 = ¥75,000
Once you factor in meals, hotel costs, and so on, aside from the allowance, the amount he actually gives her might end up being around ¥50,000.
That said, if he has found effective ways to reduce his taxes and can treat most of it as a business expense, he could probably spend twice as much—though I don’t think there’s any method like that. A man who cuts back on his lifestyle or doesn’t spend money on other hobbies might also be able to spend twice as much.
And if he earns ¥20 million or ¥30 million a year, he can spend even more. In the end, it really varies from man to man.
Also, some men earn so much that spending money doesn’t really reduce their wealth, yet still set a fixed amount for a woman’s allowance. So even though the question says, “I fully understand that it depends on the person,” I can’t help wondering what the point of asking was.
Still, there are quite a lot of men on dating apps who offer around ¥20,000, so maybe it’s useful to think of it this way:
¥20,000: normal
¥30,000: a little generous
¥50,000: generous
¥100,000: very generous
With apps, I could see the lower end being under ¥50,000 a month.
With dating clubs, though, there probably isn’t much point in paying membership and arrangement fees for less than ¥50,000, so I’d roughly estimate the lower end at around ¥100,000.
The upper end is probably quite high, whether through apps or dating clubs.
If by “free” you mean freelance, then Kaz is right.
