I wasn’t sure about the age distinction between adults and minors, so I wanted to ask.
The change to the age of adulthood may make things a little confusing, but basically, they apply stricter standards to women in their late teens—18 and 19.
That’s because when someone under 18 lies about their age, they’re more likely to actually be 18 or 19. Also, while someone 20 or older generally looks fairly mature, 18- and 19-year-olds may still have a youthful appearance, making it easier to be deceived.
For that reason, women in their teens were required to provide photo ID. However, since the wording is based on the legal age of adulthood, the policy may have changed, so I recommend asking when you apply, just to be safe.
By the way, photo IDs such as employee or student ID cards were accepted before. They also verified identity by combining one of those with an official document without a photo, such as a health insurance card.
Still, for the future, I think it would be a good idea to get a driver’s license or a My Number card. There seem to be quite a few situations outside Universe where photo identification is required.
Since people are legally adults from age 18 now, Universe Club may want to remove the final note.
If you do not have a photo ID:
Please prepare two items from the list below: one showing your name, plus one showing both your name and date of birth.
* For documents with an expiration date, they must still be valid.
* Passport (without a bearer’s details page, for applications submitted on or after February 4, 2020)
* Health insurance card
* Cash card
* Credit card
* Student ID
* Any other document showing your name and date of birth
*Minors cannot register unless they have a photo ID.*
