I don’t know what the numbers are like now, but I seem to remember that Universe Club used to get around 400 new registrations a month. That’s 4,800 a year. If half were in their 20s, that would be 2,400 a year—or 24,000 over ten years.
If we assume Universe Club accounts for 10% of papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), including apps and other platforms, then the total number of women who participate in papa-katsu during their 20s would be about 240,000. There are roughly 1 million people in each age group, half of whom are women, so there are about 5 million women in their 20s altogether. Dividing those numbers gives us roughly 4.8%.
Just under 5% is about the same as the proportion of gay men. To give another comparison, around 11% of people in Japan have type AB blood, so it’s about half of that. Left-handed people also make up around 10%, so again, about half. This is only a comparison of statistical frequency. It doesn’t mean half of all people with type AB blood do papa-katsu. Please think of it purely as a comparison of how commonly they occur.
By the way, 22.3% of women aged 20 and over are obese, so the rate of occurrence is about one-quarter of that.

Going back a bit, apparently around 10,000 people debut as adult video actresses each year. If Universe Club has a 10% share, then about 48,000 women make their debut in dating clubs annually—five times as many. I imagine there’s very little overlap, though.
Also, you mention addiction, but the male members are even more dependent on it, so don’t worry. It’s not that we can’t leave—we don’t want to. And just like you, we have our own troubles, so we keep going in and out. That turned into a dirty joke, huh? lol

Taro, your calculations are impressive. They were convincing and made for a good read. I’d say it’s probably only a few percent at most.
In general, I think far more people have no interest in it whatsoever.
Precisely because there are so few of us, the fact that it continues to exist shows what an intense world it can be once you get hooked—you just can’t break away. Unlike drugs, it isn’t illegal, so there’s no need to quit, which makes it even easier to become more and more absorbed in it.
When it comes to men and women, even couples can receive a fairly generous allowance if there’s a significant age gap. So I think it’s best not to worry too much about it and focus on finding a genuinely good relationship.
