If he’s in his 20s, I suppose it’s only natural that he doesn’t understand women’s feelings. But when a man is older than that and still doesn’t get them, there’s really nothing you can do. What Mac wrote pretty much applies here. Consider it a valuable life lesson. Well, that’s how it is, so you might as well give up.

I’m no expert on mama-katsu (laughs), so I’ll just write what I know. I know two men in their twenties who do mama-katsu. One met his mama in a hospital waiting room, and the other met his at an izakaya. I don’t think there’s any papa-katsu-style system for introducing you to a mama. The reason is: ◎Even as women get older—or even if they have a strong sex drive and are frustrated sexually—they tend to feel uncomfortable being the one who pays. That’s why women in their forties, fifties, and even sixties register with Universe Club. They want sex, but they also want money. This is somewhat similar to what happens with men who used to be popular and wonder, “Maybe I’m still young enough to go out and hunt? Paying someone isn’t really what I’m looking for.” I call that papa-katsu midlife-crisis syndrome. But there’s a slight fundamental difference, which I’ll explain now. These days, many young women actively use men’s escort services. There are probably papa-katsu girls who have called one out partly out of curiosity, right? The appeal of men’s escort services is that you can have sex quickly without any romantic relationship. Think back to the difference between papa-katsu and escort services for men: whether or not there’s an element of simulated romance. When you compare mama-katsu with men’s escort services, women generally don’t want to pay for simulated romance. If anything, they want someone to spend money on them. That’s the difference between papa-katsu midlife-crisis syndrome and mama-katsu. As for the “mama-katsu” the questioner is talking about, it may simply mean, “I want money in exchange for sex.” If that’s the case, you should apply to a men’s escort service. Men’s escort services vary widely. In Nagoya, there’s a famous one—what was it called again? Apparently, you first have to provide services to about two existing female members and get their approval before they’ll hire you. On the other hand, I’ve heard from someone who actually worked in men’s escort services that some places only require you to register online. After registering, there was no training or anything—they suddenly introduced him to a customer and told him, “Go.” Come to think of it, didn’t Furamesan say they had registered with one before? Still, I don’t think you’ll make much money. If you want to earn serious money, hosting is probably your only real option. In fact, a lot of men who couldn’t make female customers become obsessed with them—and therefore weren’t suited to hosting—end up moving into men’s escort services. I suppose it’s similar to a cabaret hostess who isn’t suited to that job ending up in delivery-based services. Also, the dark side of mama-katsu runs deep. One of the two men I mentioned earlier told me this story. He went to his mama’s apartment and waited for her to get ready, but she took a long time to show up. After a while, she came toward him smiling, holding something in her hand. She showed him a brown, solid substance and said, “If you eat this, I’ll give you one million yen right now. What do you say?” I’ve never heard of that kind of game in papa-katsu. Although there was that story about a celebrity offering one million yen for each finger bone someone broke themselves. And now that I think about it, that famous company president’s drug-fueled sex parties in Minato Ward were also one-million-yen deals. For some reason, the really dangerous stories often involve one million yen. I take that back—there are certainly people with a very dark side in papa-katsu too. Still, among women who want to lure in young men and toy with them under the label of mama-katsu, I think the percentage with serious issues is particularly high. You shouldn’t take it lightly. Whether it’s looks or skills, young men who can’t even become hosts should work hard at a regular daytime job and aim to make something of themselves. Some people might say, “What about romance scams? Women are paying money for romance there.” But that isn’t simulated romance. From the victim’s perspective, it’s genuine love. Women generally don’t tend to experience romance as something simulated. For them, it’s either real love or nothing. Women have sexual desires too, but unlike men, I think fewer women feel that “sex by itself is empty—I want to do it while feeling like we’re lovers.” That’s why mama-katsu won’t spread in the same way papa-katsu has. Men’s escort services, on the other hand, are still relatively undeveloped, so I think they’ll continue to grow. That said, hosts look down on men who work in those services. I once got involved in introducing a men’s escort service to an acquaintance in her fifties. The person who agreed to help was an active host. I was hoping he might be willing to do it himself, but he laughed and readily agreed: “If you pay me around 150,000 yen, there are plenty of washed-up hosts among my juniors who’ll do anything like that. I’ll give one of them 50,000 and pocket the other 100,000.” In the end, it didn’t happen. The woman who brought me the idea was an esthetician. While giving the fifty-something woman a facial massage, she heard her say something like, “I haven’t had sex in ages. I want to sleep with a man,” so she thought she’d help by introducing someone. But after I had arranged everything through my connections and approached the woman, she laughed and said, “Thank you, but even at my age, if I’m going to do that, I still want to be paid. I’m a woman, after all.” Apparently, she had been very beautiful and worked in the nightlife industry when she was younger. She then married a company president several decades older than her, after marrying into wealth, and was widowed when he passed away. She’s apparently quite overweight now and no longer resembles her former self. But since she really did marry into wealth, she must have been beautiful back then. She’ll spend tens or even hundreds of thousands of yen on esthetic treatments and cosmetics. But she hates spending money on men. That’s just how women are. Men have their own difficulties, but women do too. That’s the story. The end. Wait, wasn’t this supposed to be a column? (laughs) The high-end men’s escort service I mentioned above was “Nagoya Himitsu Kichi.” Apparently, they have one in Tokyo too. If you’re confident, questioner, why not apply?
