I don’t have a photo posted, mainly because my company uses my face on things like the CEO’s message, as well as in various other media. That said, I’m divorced and single, and it’s not like I run some huge, famous company that would have Bunshun coming to investigate if I got found out. If it happens, it happens. At this point, there’s really nothing left for me to be afraid of. I’m not doing anything illegal. Still, there’s no reason to deliberately stir things up, so I keep my photo hidden. I’d feel awkward being scolded by my employees or my weekend-marriage girlfriend for saying, “What exactly are you doing?” Come to think of it, a woman once showed me the profiles of some of the male members. Not many had photos posted, but they seemed to fall into two categories: 1. “Look what a handsome older guy I am—you’d be happy to get an offer from me, right?” 2. “I’m an old man, but if you’re okay with that, I look forward to meeting you.” I think the second type is basically saying, “If you’re going to turn me down when we meet, don’t accept my offer in the first place.” Numerically, it was definitely 1 >> 2. The guys in category 1 are probably pretty experienced with dating apps and the like. So while you can’t really know what a man without a photo is like until you meet him, maybe those men are the most likely to be ordinary, inexperienced papas—and therefore the safest bet? Who knows, though.
