I was confessed to by a good-looking, average guy who graduated from Japan’s top university and earns 10 million yen a year. I turned him down.
When I told my parents, they took things to an extreme and asked which I would choose: a 180-cm handsome guy who lives off his partner, or the average-looking guy earning 10 million yen. They insisted I should choose the former.
I’m currently in love with a man who earns slightly above average, but it probably won’t go anywhere.
I’m always the one strange people end up liking.
Is the world really all about money?
Someone who graduated from Japan’s top university and earns 10 million yen feels a little underwhelming, lol.
Parents who tell you to choose a freeloader are something else.
Rich men have plenty of competition, and they’re also more likely to cheat. Still, if you want the money, then choose a rich man.
If you can be satisfied with a handsome guy even if he doesn’t have money, then choose someone who isn’t wealthy.
Especially when it comes to men, supposedly, because of their instinct to pass on their genes as animals, the period during which they can genuinely stay in love with one person is only around two to five years.
So, from a woman’s perspective, if a man is going to lose interest in you eventually anyway, I personally think it’s better if he has money, lol.

When someone uses an extreme example to explain something, it may be to help the other person—in this case, the questioner—sort through overly complicated thoughts.
So, you turned down a strange, average-looking man who graduated from a prestigious university and earns ¥10 million a year. Your parents are saying that, rather than choosing such an average-looking man, you’d be better off choosing a handsome, unemployed freeloader.
Perhaps your parents are telling you to choose someone you can truly love, rather than focusing on qualities like income.
If so, you may be second-guessing your decision to turn down the strange, average-looking man—not because you liked him, but because you were swayed by his academic background and current income.
To some extent, you do need money to get by, but just because someone earns well now doesn’t mean they’ll continue to do so in the future.
Why not choose someone you can truly love?
If a high income is what makes you like someone, then choose the high earner. Perhaps your parents feel that you’re forcing yourself when it comes to love and the person you like.

Having more money does give you more free time. If everything else is roughly equal, it’s only natural to prefer the person with money.
So I guess women are supposed to earn enough to support a handsome kept man. But even a handsome guy becomes an old man eventually, so you can just dump him then.
