I recently signed up with Universe, but even I’m not thrilled with the photo they took during my interview. I’m thinking of adding some selfies—what kind of photos do the female members usually upload?

Some women use heavy filters, but since their profiles aren’t edited, I just think, “Oh, she’s really trying, huh?” lol I think it’s best to use cute, natural-looking photos without too much editing. Just avoid photos that reveal your location or show too much of your everyday life.

Thank you for your question. Thank you for considering posting selfie photos. Photos of meals or outings seem to be the most common. Please note that if anyone else appears in the photo, we can’t approve it unless you blur their face or cover it with a sticker. Takeaki Dan

I checked a few profiles, and surprisingly, quite a number of the female members at my branch had photos of themselves with food. Others were more conventional selfies taken while out and about. Some people edit their photos with apps, but I wouldn’t recommend using edited photos for a club profile. It’s better to find your best angle and take a natural photo without any filters.

Photos in your underwear will be removed. I’m not sure about swimsuit photos either… If you want to meet some older guy who gets excited seeing you in a swimsuit and makes you an offer, go ahead. He could also be a broke, one-time-only type, so think carefully before taking the photos. I think most people doing papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) are looking for a normal girl they click with. Take ordinary photos of yourself while you’re out and about. This isn’t a hostess club or an adult-entertainment service.

A swimsuit photo would definitely be best. Lingerie is fine too. Seriously though, I feel like most people use photos taken at tourist spots, in cafés or bars, or selfies taken at home. Some people occasionally post photos of food or scenery from tourist destinations, but this isn’t social media, so they don’t have any impact at all. I also skip heavily edited photos because they aren’t useful for reference. If the photo includes a familiar chair or something similar, I can tell that they’re also registered with ●● Club. If you work in a public-facing job and use photos that can be found online, there’s a chance you could be identified. That said, it does give viewers more information, so I appreciate it. For a sexy look, I’ve seen people covering their breasts with their hands, but anything more explicit would probably be removed. Occasional glimpses of underwear or visible nipples through clothing are common enough in profile photos, so I think those are probably fine. So, to sum it all up, a swimsuit or lingerie photo is the best option. Taro

The photos people post vary widely, but I feel like a lot of them look as though they were taken at tourist spots or cafés.
