Unless it’s a highly specialized job or position, I judge people by whether they can properly do what’s expected of them and continue working with ambition without disrupting the harmony of the workplace. I avoid people who can’t do anything yet insist on a minimum salary, complain about days off, don’t get along with others, or are self-centered or have an inflated sense of themselves.

Don’t worry—if you’re in your 20s, places will hire you even without qualifications or experience. Make sure to thoroughly study what to wear to the interview, how to style your hair, how to speak, and so on. You’ll be fine; everyone manages it. Start browsing job listings right away. P.S. There aren’t as many listings at the end of the year, but be sure to check the morning rush hour and how long it takes to get there by train. You’ll get tired just from the train ride at first.

There’s a book out by the president of Universe Club, and apparently getting hired is incredibly competitive—only one in 100 applicants makes it. It must be a popular company. Search online and find companies you can apply to. If you’re attractive, you might even have a chance with one of the employees. The guys at Starbucks all seem handsome, too.

Depending on the industry and company, I don’t think having certifications makes much difference when it comes to being hired as a full-time employee. For example, aside from my driver’s license, my other qualifications have been little more than conversation starters during interviews. Even if someone has a bookkeeping certification, you can’t tell whether they’re actually suited for accounting. Likewise, having a secretary certification doesn’t tell you whether they’d be good at being a secretary. The same goes for language certifications—they test you by having you actually speak, read, and write. When it comes to getting a job, I feel that being the kind of person who asks such an unrelated question in an anonymous papa-katsu Q&A box would matter more than any qualifications. How much computer skills are required also depends on the position. If you’re trying to become an employee at Universe Club, there doesn’t seem to be a dating club certification or anything like that. Are there any particular qualifications they look for? I heard Universe Club received applications from 700 new graduates, so they may have used qualifications as one factor in screening applicants, but I don’t think they decide whom to hire based on certifications.

If you’re in your 20s, can’t you take on all kinds of challenges? There are companies that hire people with no experience and train them, too. You might have a hard time if you end up at a toxic company, but after gaining a few years of experience, I think changing jobs would be easier.
