I’m guessing that app isn’t specifically for papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan). Probably not.
So why do men on apps like that ask, “What kind of person are you looking for?” Well…
They try to make normal conversation, hoping there might be connections beyond papa-katsu, but no matter how hard they try, the woman eventually asks how much the allowance is. In the end, they think, “So is this just papa-katsu or an escort service?”
After going through that repeatedly, messaging starts to feel like a hassle, so they begin by asking outright, “What kind of person are you looking for?”
That was exactly how I felt.
So the smoothest response is to state the allowance amount you’re hoping for.

It may seem like a silly question, but relationships are meant to be with someone you’re compatible with. I think you should simply reply with what you’re looking for in a papa (a male supporter).

I think you should describe the kind of papa (male supporter) you’re looking for.
That said, since it’s your first message, something like, “I’m looking for someone I can get along with,” should be fine.
If they reply, “I’d like us to get along. I look forward to hearing from you,” you could say something like:
“I’m sure it can be challenging since this is an allowance-based arrangement, but what kind of budget did you have in mind?”
That should gradually give you a clearer picture of the arrangement(笑).
