Is playing texting games on LINE effective for making a papa (a male supporter) get emotionally hooked? I sometimes intentionally take a while to reply or leave guys my age on read as part of the game, but would doing that to a papa be rude and make him angry?

If you’re going to play the push-and-pull game, the question is what you want to get out of it. If he’s getting angry, you’ve already managed to stir his emotions. Now just make sure those feelings are moving in the direction of getting him hooked.

Hmph… how laughable… I don’t think “playing hard to get” means delaying replies or occasionally leaving someone on read. When I first saw the words “playing hard to get,” I thought you meant something more sophisticated. But if that’s all you’re talking about, I don’t see the point.

This may be unsolicited advice, but depending on your target, I think you’re better off avoiding that even with someone your own age. If they don’t seem popular and there’s little competition, then it might work. But if there are other people vying for their attention, it’ll probably work against you.

Hostesses at cabaret clubs probably do this routinely. The basic goal is to encourage customers to come back, but if you do it with everyone, the funnel effect means a certain number of customers will inevitably become really invested. An engineer I know said he created an auto-reply LINE app for cabaret hostesses, and it was well received. So rather than being technically difficult, it may simply be more effective to consistently handle the basics. In that sense, I don’t think resorting to tricks or playing “mind games” is the best approach. Taro

The faster he replies, the more I get drawn in; the slower he replies, the more I want to cut things off.

I don’t understand the point of doing that. Marika

It may depend on your relationship with your papa (a male supporter). If you’re seeing each other like a boyfriend and girlfriend, it might be fine to treat it like a normal relationship. But I don’t like playing games, so I think I’ll just be honest and straightforward instead of doing that myself.

I don’t think it will make much difference, but if it gives you a sense of satisfaction—like “At least I did this much”—then it might be worthwhile.

This isn’t a high school romance, so it’s best not to play games or do anything weird. Everyone has a job, and nobody likes unnecessary hassle.

I’ll assume she has another papa and say goodbye. That doesn’t really work for papa-katsu. Women have to reply within seconds… P.S. That said, sometimes getting a reply instantly isn’t such a good thing. If I’m already looking at the chat, I’m happy when it’s marked as read right away and I get a quick reply. But if the reply comes within seconds after I send my message and close the chat, I may not notice it until later. Then I start wondering why they aren’t replying, while they may think I’ve left them on read. Maybe waiting a minute or two before replying would be just right…

I don’t get upset, but when a woman takes a long time to reply on LINE, I don’t get attached—in fact, I lose interest and start considering ending things. Women who reply quickly become a higher priority for me.

It might not be as effective with people around your own age. It works on older guys who are inexperienced and already getting sucked in, but most of them usually move on to someone else.

I think it depends on the person. I wouldn’t get angry, but I hate dealing with hassle, so I’d stop meeting her.
