I signed up at the same time as a friend a year ago. According to our papas, she was Gold and I was Platinum. We’ve both already left, but in the end she received three offers while I received 25. However, in everyday life, especially at university, my friend is much more popular. I don’t even get approached by men in the first place. Does this mean that although my overall vibe appeals to older men, I’m actually not cute or attractive at all? I really don’t understand why things are so different in the papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) world compared with university life.

You’re so beautiful that you seem completely out of reach—like a woman on a pedestal. Us old guys have money, so we’re pretty thick-skinned. We’re used to seeing beautiful women. Any papa (a male supporter) who tells her his class when she asks is breaking the rules.

Maybe men’s preferences really do vary by generation. I suppose it’s better to be popular with at least one generation than with none at all, but does that mean you want to be more popular than your friends, regardless of their age? If you look at your friends, you can probably get a sense of what kind of women are popular, so it might be helpful to use them as a reference. That said, I think you’re fine as you are now.

I get the impression that you and your friend are both pretty mature and down-to-earth for your age—but I can’t really know since I haven’t met you. It could be the other way around, too. Either way, you and your friend each have your own unique strengths!
