From the hotel’s perspective, if they still have vacancies on the day, a guest who calls to inquire at the last minute is an ideal customer.
Even if their official policy says same-day reservations aren’t accepted, they can always say, “We had a sudden cancellation, so we’re making an exception.”
It won’t work with popular hotels that are always fully booked, though.
Also, plenty of city hotels regularly show their vacancy status online, so there’s nothing to worry about if you gather that information in advance.
That said, some women occasionally say they don’t like city hotels because sounds can carry outside the room.
It would be good to casually find out during the conversation what the woman is looking for.

You can easily book a same-day day-use room at a city hotel.
That said, you should practice. The week before, and again the day before, practice on your phone by going through the booking process up to the final step at the same time of day and on the same day of the week.
