If we’ve met several times, I don’t really worry about whether it’s given before or after. But if we haven’t met that many times yet, I might give the allowance upfront.

If it’s your first time, getting the allowance upfront is best, right?

For Type B, the first meeting ends with dinner only, so I give her the allowance upfront.
For Type C, I usually discuss the terms at the end of dinner and then give her the allowance.
From the second meeting onward, we already know what kind of arrangement it’ll be that day, so I give it to her upfront.

With my monthly arrangement partners, I usually give them the allowance for the next meeting either when we part ways or by bank transfer in advance.
I do this so they can feel a little more secure by always receiving one to three allowances upfront. If we decide to part ways or fade out, that money serves as a parting payment.

These days, I ask for the allowance upfront.

I pay afterward.
I understand that paying upfront feels more reassuring, but handing over the allowance beforehand makes it feel like a commercial sex worker, and giving it to her in the room feels like a delivery escort service, so it kills the mood. That’s why I give it to her when we’re leaving.

I generally hand over the allowance before leaving the room. I don’t offer it upfront myself because being paid in advance feels too much like a sex-work transaction.
This may be a subtle distinction, but I don’t think of it as “paying” her—I’m “giving it to her.” When someone uses the word “pay,” I feel we may have slightly different attitudes toward the relationship.
I understand that handing it over upfront, like Kazu does, is the most gentlemanly approach. But I may still be immature and want to confirm where the woman stands.
That said, if she sees it as something she’s supposed to be paid and feels uneasy, I think she should just say so directly instead of trying to read my mind.
If she told me, I’d simply give it to her upfront. I might even say, “Sorry for making you feel uneasy.” Thinking differently from someone and making them feel uncomfortable are two separate things.
More importantly, you can sometimes tell what a man is really like from how he reacts, so don’t hesitate to speak up. Trying to accommodate a difficult man will only cause you stress.

I ask to be paid upfront because I might forget, lol.
That said, there have actually been times when I forgot and got paid afterward.
But once you have an ongoing relationship where it no longer matters whether you’re paid before or after, that kind of thing becomes irrelevant anyway, lol.

I always receive my allowance upfront. It’s handed to me as soon as I enter the room.
Adding this after reading Taro’s answer:
That’s right—I’ve never done “payment in advance” or “payment” either. I believe an allowance is something you give, not something you pay.
