I assume they’re simply stating it as it is because that’s what they actually receive. I can’t imagine how else they could phrase it without saying it casually in a way that would satisfy you.
To begin with, the only reason you consider it a large amount is that your own standards are low. From the woman’s perspective, it’s simply what she normally receives, so it’s by no means a large amount.
For example, suppose there’s something that costs ¥120,000. How do you decide whether that’s expensive or cheap? Is ¥120,000 expensive—or is it cheap?
If someone said it was a ¥120,000 pencil, many people might think that was expensive, since pencils at a stationery store cost around ¥100.
But if a newly built 100-square-meter apartment in a high-rise tower in central Tokyo were being sold for ¥120,000—not even rented for ¥120,000 a month—then I think more people would find it strange to call that expensive.
You should first realize that your own sense of value is out of touch.

I think all you have to do is calmly turn them down before you’re left completely stunned (and this part is important).

It really just comes down to how much allowance you’re willing to offer and whether the woman you meet is satisfied with it.
