I always make sure to use the restroom before meeting someone. I’m so impatient that I feel uneasy unless I arrive at least 20 minutes early, so I have plenty of time anyway.
If I suddenly really needed to go, I’d arrive first, check with my date, and then excuse myself. I might ask them to look over the menu while they wait…
So yes, it’s best to go before meeting them.

Women seem to go to the restroom only about a third or a quarter as often as men, so I think it feels more natural to go beforehand.
For men, it wouldn’t seem unusual to go at any time or fairly often, though…

That might be better, but I don’t think it would be a major problem if you simply told her and went ahead anyway.
Hardly anyone would think, “She went to the restroom as soon as we entered the restaurant, so I’m not interested in pursuing anything with her” (lol).
That said, regardless of whether you’re meeting someone, it’s probably a good habit to use the restroom before heading out for an appointment or making plans.
