Do the female respondents here actually enjoy their lives? I thought papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) was for people who wanted extra money for things like tuition, beauty treatments, or starting a business, but the women answering here don’t seem to be struggling financially, have proper day jobs, don’t seem interested in getting plastic surgery or spending much on beauty, and don’t appear to be married despite being well past their youth. Do they actually enjoy their lives? In the answers, they mostly make comments that put men on a pedestal, but personally, I feel like they’re the ones who see men as ATMs and care only about money. Why do they do papa-katsu? Are they actually having financial difficulties? Because if they really loved the men they were dating, they wouldn’t accept money from them, would they?

I’m Aya, one of the female members. I ended up having dinner in Azabu-Juban with my actual father, so I’m replying late. I keep finding myself wanting to talk about so many things that I almost wish I could meet you in person and chat, haha. These days, I’m enjoying life so much that I catch myself humming without even realizing it. But honestly, before I started papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), my life was practically falling apart. I’d had a lot going on since college and was pretty mentally unstable. I’m sure people around me probably thought, “She’s a lost cause.” Then, through papa-katsu, which I started after entering the workforce, I met some wonderful adult supporters and received substantial allowances. That really boosted my self-esteem. It may sound materialistic, but I think the biggest factor was being able to build up assets that most people my age could never have accumulated. From there, my career started going well too, and my life turned around as dramatically as something out of a Shinken Zemi manga. Of course, I’ve had some unpleasant encounters through papa-katsu, but I was lucky enough to meet so many wonderful papas that they more than made up for them. Oh, and just to clarify, I haven’t had plastic surgery, but I spend ¥70,000–¥80,000 a month on beauty treatments—white-glutathione IV drips, photofacials, iontophoresis at an aesthetic salon, and so on. I also got a TOKIO treatment at the hair salon today. My hair is incredibly smooth. Beauty has become a hobby of mine, and although it costs money, I’m earning very well, so my savings just keep growing. Tomorrow, I’m having dinner with my papa at Wolfgang’s in Aoyama. Assets that never decrease, good relationships, and a fulfilling career—if that isn’t happiness, then what is? This has gotten rather long, so I’ll stop here. I hope you meet a wonderful papa too and find some peace of mind.

I’m Nana Ayase ☆ It’s a dating club, but it’s not just about receiving an allowance. I’m genuinely interested in how successful people achieved their success, stocks, and all kinds of other things. I joined while having fun thinking about how far I can go as a woman without relying on men. Also, I’ve loved being showered with affection ever since I was little. One person’s love isn’t enough for me—I want to be showered with love from two or three people. Love isn’t money.

I’m Fuu, a columnist. Wow, you really are a pitiful person, aren’t you? You’ve decided everything based entirely on your own assumptions. If your papa only saw you as an outlet for his sexual desires, wouldn’t that hurt? Even if it isn’t romantic love, two people can genuinely like and respect each other as human beings. That’s why some relationships last a long time. There are also people who work, do papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), and are happy because it makes their lives more comfortable. And you’re the one slandering others under the cover of anonymity. With that mindset and attitude, I imagine unpleasant things happen to you all the time.

I’m BB7. I don’t know the women who answered, but I’m pretty sure they’re living lives at least 10,000 times more enjoyable than yours. Are you enjoying being alive? Then what’s the problem?

Passing judgment based only on your own yardstick, or having such a narrow perspective… You can’t live life with any flexibility that way. You probably can’t even imagine it, but my work is going well, and I enjoy every day. In a word: fulfilled! The people I’ve met here, as well as those I meet through work and in my personal life, give me so much, both tangible and intangible. It feels like I can keep expanding my world and developing my skills. Even as I get older, I’m still needed as a person, as a woman, and as a professional. That makes me happier than anything and gives me even more motivation to keep going. On the other hand, I do wonder whether younger women really enjoy life more when they’re with much older men just to afford luxuries beyond their means. Akari

You don’t need to worry about me. I’m enjoying my life, and work is going fairly well too. Thankfully, I’ve managed to get by—and even be reasonably popular—without cosmetic surgery, and I still receive offers. Since I’m getting older, I’ve thought that maybe it wouldn’t hurt to try things like getting rid of some spots or going to a beauty salon, but I haven’t done anything like that so far. As for the money, the men themselves tell me, “You need to make sure you accept it properly.” I have a good time with them, and I’m not someone who knows how to get men to hand over large sums, so I don’t receive huge amounts. I have a lot of hobbies, so they do cost me a fair bit of money. It’s better to have some than none. And dating itself is practically a hobby for me. Marika

I’m Kazu, a male member. What a rude person. If you want extra money on top of everything else, then I assume you’re not actually struggling financially. In other words, you’re not really in financial trouble. That contradicts what you said right from the start. I meet and stay in touch on LINE with several of the women who answered, and they seem to be having fun. From the questioner’s perspective, spending money on beauty treatments or plastic surgery, or getting married, may be what makes life enjoyable. But everyone has different values, and some people simply don’t see value in those things. What people value differs from person to person. I don’t think liking the man you’re seeing and receiving an allowance are mutually exclusive. There are many different forms of “liking” someone. The questioner’s way of thinking is the same as a man saying, “We’re in a romantic relationship, so you don’t need an allowance.” Adding this after reading Mac’s answer: I see—so this is how ridiculous it looks(笑) I couldn’t help but like Mac’s answer.

I’m Rin, a female member of SALON. You’ve never met me, so of course you can’t really understand me—you don’t know anything about me. I enjoy my life! Every day is fun. There are all kinds of things going on, but I’m living happily. I joined SALON to gain life experience. I’m not the type of person who knows much about the world outside, and I feel I have less life experience than many other people. What motivated me was wanting to learn from the male members’ experiences and ways of thinking. Of course, I think money is always necessary, no matter how much you have. But it isn’t everything. I’m not going to get plastic surgery, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to spend money on beauty and self-care. And I don’t believe marriage is everything, either.
