If my papa asks, “What kind of Christmas present would you like with a ¥10,000 budget?” I thought of replies like, “I’d love to go somewhere a little fancier than usual for dinner♡” or “Then there’s something I’ve been interested in, so let’s go look at it together!” Could you help me come up with a witty, playful response that won’t hurt his pride while also conveying the feeling of, “At that price, I’d rather not get a present at all”?

I’m Rin, a female SALON member. Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone buy you whatever you like, up to a budget of 10,000 yen? While many people are nervously asking whether it’s okay to bring up the budget, I think it’s kind of him to clearly tell you the amount. If you really don’t want a 10,000-yen gift, why not ask him to add that amount to today’s allowance instead?

I’m in Seattle. If it were me, I’d have my papa buy me laundry detergent, drinks, food, cup noodles, and a portable gas stove on Amazon. You can stock up on quite a lot. Then you’ll be prepared even if an earthquake hits. And today, it’s Mr. Maezawa from ZOZOTOWN heading into space.

I’m Taro, a male member. How about saying: “Wow!! A $10,000 gift?! I guess someone who used to be called a $6-million man really is on another level. But rather than that, I’d find it much more romantic to go see a million-dollar night view with you—the romance would never end!” Then you could take the Romancecar and go see the night view in Atami. And while you’re at it, you might as well stop by the adult museum too. For reference, you can figure on one dollar being worth ¥113. Now, I wonder how many references people will catch~ (lol)

Maezawa from the CEO’s office here as well. A gift is all about the thought behind it. I think it’s fine to simply mention something practical that you’d normally use. For example, you could pick out some cosmetics, perfume, or something similar that comes to around ¥10,000 and say: “I’d like these, these, and these, please.” That should be perfectly fine. I don’t think you need to turn it into some kind of comedy routine. If you don’t like it, you can always break things off.

I’m Osaka, a male member. How about this? “Then use the 10,000 yen to buy a Year-End Jumbo lottery ticket instead♡ Of course, you should keep the ticket yourself♡ I sincerely hope you win, because you need it more than I do♡” Would that work? lol They’d definitely catch on, huh? lol Maybe: “I sincerely hope you’ll be happier than I am♡”

I’m Aya, a female member. If you say, “I’d love to go somewhere a little fancier than usual for dinner♡,” some papas (male supporters) may take it as you thinking their usual dinners are pretty shabby. So I think it’s better to keep it simple, like: “It’s Christmas, so I’d love to go somewhere a little fancy for dinner♡”
