I have a question about meeting times.
As a rule, I try to arrive at the station 30 minutes early and at the meeting place 10 minutes early so I won't be late.
I always find myself wondering how many minutes before the meeting I should call the man I'm meeting. I thought the basic rule was to arrive 10 minutes early and be ready to go 5 minutes ahead of time, so I've been calling 5 minutes before. Is that too early?

There’s always a chance the train could be delayed or stopped due to an accident, so I leave with plenty of time.
Didn’t you ask the staff to call the gentleman when it’s five minutes before the meeting time?

I thought ten minutes early would be better, but apparently many people feel that’s too early.

I don’t think anyone would get angry over a phone call five minutes beforehand.
As long as it’s before the scheduled time, they really have no reason to complain, so I don’t think you need to overthink it.

Most of the time, the woman calls me five minutes beforehand. Occasionally, I get a call ten minutes before, or right on time.
So in my opinion, calling five minutes beforehand, as you did, is perfect.

Our first date was also our first date after joining, so I got a call 10 minutes beforehand. Ever since then, I’ve made a point of arriving early.
After that, most people arrived right on time or about a minute early. I often answered questions on the Q&A site while waiting.
I think arriving five or ten minutes early gives off a nice, fresh, new-to-this feeling.
