Don’t papas want to support men too? Do they only provide support because there’s an intimate relationship involved?

I’m Aya, a female member. I’ve heard that young, attractive men are paid by older gay men who are into that sort of thing. I can’t really imagine it myself, but perhaps there’s some kind of love there too.

I’m Kazu, a male member. I don’t particularly want to support girls financially, either. I believe supporting someone and dating through an allowance-based arrangement are two entirely different things.

I’m not sure whether “papa” is the right term, but people who offer support—regardless of whether there’s an intimate relationship—have existed for a long time. That said, they seem to be far less common in Japan than overseas. Still, I feel like they do exist here too. Masayoshi Son of SoftBank, for example, strikes me as someone who actively supports others. These days, there’s also crowdfunding, so support can take that form as well. Everyone supports others in their own way. I think it’s fine for there to be many different forms of support.
