Are women who ask for 20,000 or 30,000 yen for dinner only (no intimacy) grounds for a complaint?

I’m Saito, a columnist ♪ To begin with, I’ve never had the other person bring up an allowance for dinner. If they’re the one bringing it up, could it be that they were dissatisfied and felt, “I’m not getting enough for this to be worth my while”?

I’m a BB7 male member. Are there really women who ask for 20,000–30,000 yen upfront just for dinner? Of their own accord, I mean. If it were me, I’d bluntly tell her, “I don’t see you as being worth that much,” hand her 5,000 yen, and leave immediately. Would that be considered ungentlemanly and grounds for a complaint?

I’m a lost 60-something. I once met someone who wanted that kind of arrangement—an upper-tier match, and of course a Type B… lol. At the branch where I’m registered, I remember thinking, “Wow, that’s pretty bold,” and wondering what to do next. Back then, people weren’t so strict about receiving transportation money upfront, so I gave her that amount as transportation expenses for our first dinner. I still remember how sweet her thank-you message was after we parted. Later, I mentioned it to the staff—not as a complaint, but as feedback about the date. They said, “Maybe she’s gotten a little conceited because she’s popular.” After that, due to my own circumstances, quite a few months passed before we could go on a second date. During that time, though, she always replied quickly and never blamed me or acted negatively. Considering that we couldn’t meet very often either, I decided that, with a woman like her, it was understandable. As Flag Maker wrote, I don’t think it would lead to complaints as long as you value the little extras.

I’m Flag Maker, a column writer. Some people do ask for that level of allowance for dinner only, but at that amount, I feel you’d need good looks plus something extra.

Basically, there’s nothing wrong with asking for any amount. It simply depends on what the man sitting across from you thinks. If he feels, “That’s a reasonable offer,” he’ll say, “Okay!” If he thinks, “You’re being pretty bold,” he’ll just say, “No.”

I’m Paper Airplane, a male member. There’s far too little information in the question itself. As someone who welcomes both Type A and Type B arrangements, I wouldn’t want someone joining the club if all they ask about is the allowance. From a woman’s perspective, I understand that she might consider it a preference. But if she demanded it from the outset, I wouldn’t feel like meeting her. I’d assume she was either in the sex industry or a hostess and run.
