For a first-offer date, I make a reservation at a booth or private room serving the woman’s favorite cuisine and take her there.
As Fuu, who considers himself—perhaps a little too proudly—the epitome of a papa-katsu papa, I keep a list of restaurants in various genres with a pleasant atmosphere and either semi-private or private rooms.
You can’t really discuss the terms unless you have a private room.
Once, I went to an open café in a hotel lobby, but there was a loud group of ladies sitting next to us. It killed the mood, and we couldn’t discuss the terms at all, lol.
Once we get to know each other better, I actually stop choosing private rooms. I mix things up with casual places, members-only yakiniku restaurants, Michelin-starred sushi spots, restaurants with night views, and so on—so she can enjoy herself, and I can have a good time too.

I generally don’t go to overly formal restaurants. If my companion wants to, I’ll take them, but I’ll also sometimes make an effort to book popular casual places that are usually hard to get into.
I’m a smoker, so when my companion smokes too, I often choose places where heated tobacco is allowed.
Most of the time, I’ll ask what they’d like to eat, discuss it with them, and choose the place myself. Now that I think about it, I’ve also gone to chain yakitori restaurants.

For the first meeting, I usually play it safe and choose a restaurant in a city hotel.
From the second meeting onward, I’m flexible. I ask what she likes and choose accordingly—sushi, yakiniku, and recently, okonomiyaki.
The Day of the Ox is coming up, so next time we’re going out for eel.

If I’m going to spend money on a meal, I’d rather put that toward a higher allowance or a nice gift, so I only go to restaurants where the two of us can eat for 10,000 yen or less.
If she’s conscious of her figure, she may just order a salad.

It varies depending on the time and situation.
Sometimes we go to ramen shops or takoyaki stands, while other times we go to restaurants with a dress code. We also sometimes order delivery, or pick up food from a convenience store or bento shop and eat somewhere other than the shop itself.
