I recently met someone who was registered with Universe, but honestly, he was an unkempt older man.
(He said he goes to lounges, but I guess if you have money, your clothes and appearance don’t really matter?)

Even if you’re handsome, you may think you can have sex without an allowance, but it’s probably best not to expect there to be many.
Being well-groomed often makes things more enjoyable for the papa (a male supporter), so you may find papas who are better than the ones you’ve met.
It really comes down to luck.
One good thing about papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) is that even after accepting an offer, you can still turn it down if you’re uncomfortable. So if you don’t like it, just say no.

This doesn’t really answer your question, but I’ve heard from several people that handsome guys aren’t popular at dating clubs.
From a PJ’s perspective, they tend to assume, “Does this guy have lots of women on the side?” and rate him lower because of it.
Though being unkempt will hurt your rating even more.

Is this just the usual smear campaign?
Most women prioritize good grooming and personal hygiene. If a man is unclean, things presumably won’t develop into a relationship beyond dinner.
Some women even explicitly say that unless the man is an exceptionally handsome, celebrity-type older guy, things won’t progress beyond dinner.
Most men aren’t satisfied with dinner only—they’re paying for what comes beyond that.
If all there were were “unclean old men,” things wouldn’t develop into relationships with women, and the men wouldn’t spend any money. Men also make an effort to meet women’s expectations by taking better care of their appearance, working out, and even getting cosmetic surgery.
Logically speaking, since dating clubs are able to operate as a business, there must be some well-groomed, handsome men among them too.
Besides, people say beauty fades after three days, while plain looks become familiar after three days. Think of couples like Beauty and the Beast—or married couples like that. People aren’t attracted by looks alone. I think it’s perfectly normal for someone to be just a little unattractive, while the other person gushes that they alone understand their partner’s appeal.
Finally, many people mistakenly think the internet is anonymous. If you repeatedly interfere with someone’s business, your identity can be determined through a request to disclose the sender’s information, and you may be held accountable in the real world.

I was a member of Universe, but when I first met the women, they never said anything about my looks.
As we started meeting more often, though, some of them did start calling me handsome, haha.
I guess they just got used to me?
Why not try meeting her a few times and see how it goes!

Even someone like me gets called “handsome” or “good-looking” by women from the club, so I wonder if receiving money makes even an unattractive guy look that way…?? I honestly can’t remember ever being told that outside the club…
Strictly speaking, only a very small handful of club women are truly beautiful. But every one of them is definitely cute. From a man’s perspective, they’re all wonderful women who’ll spend time with you and date you in exchange for an allowance.
