I’m a government employee in my 20s. I’d like to start papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), but I’m worried about how it might affect my job and about being recognized, so I haven’t been able to work up the courage. Is it okay for a government employee to do papa-katsu? I’m overweight, so I feel like I’m not suited for it in the first place, but I really need to make some money. Are there any government employees who do papa-katsu?

There are civil servants, too. Some work for publicly traded companies. Some people also have personal circumstances they can’t openly disclose.

I believe government employees are generally not allowed to have side jobs, but registering with a dating club does not count as employment, so it shouldn’t be considered a side job. That said, society sometimes places a strong emphasis on morality. Something that would be fine for an ordinary government employee might be viewed differently for someone in a profession where such behavior is considered unacceptable—such as a female police officer, for example. So even if there’s no legal issue, it can still be complicated. You should carefully consider whether your profession is one that might attract moral criticism. If it seems acceptable from a professional standpoint, then the main concern would probably be being recognized. You could register with a blurred photo and avoid sending unblurred photos to men you’re considering meeting. That way, I don’t think anyone other than men you’ve actually met would recognize you. You could also refuse to meet near your workplace and take other precautions as needed.

There are sometimes people who work in the civil service. Personally, I prefer someone on the heavier side. Let’s meet for an interview right away.

Sex work often prohibits holding another job, and there are occasional crackdowns, but allowance-based dating should be safe, right? More importantly, lose weight first. You’re worrying about the wrong thing.

You’ll have to decide for yourself whether it’s okay to engage in an allowance-based relationship as a civil servant. Personally, I don’t consider allowance-based dating to be a job, so I don’t think it qualifies as running a business. I know several women who are civil servants and do papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan).
