I was rejected at an interview before.

Reapplying isn’t necessarily a bad idea, but sometimes you’re marked as “not eligible to reapply” when you’re rejected. If that happens, you’ll be turned down at the initial screening no matter how many times you apply, and you won’t even make it to the interview. Someone who wrote about a similar situation in the question box a while ago contacted me directly afterward, so I conducted an online interview with her. She passed that, then went on to a second interview at the branch and was eventually registered. However, this was only possible because they happened to be testing online interviews at the time, and I happened to be conducting them as well. That’s how she was able to enter through that route. These days, online interviews are handled by the branches. (Although you still have to visit the branch for the second interview, so I’m not sure how useful an online interview really is.) Because of that, I can’t put anyone through that route now, so I don’t think I’ll be able to help. As for whether you pass or fail the interview, it really comes down to luck. If you’re borderline, you’ll pass if you happen to get a more lenient staff member, but fail if you get a stricter one. There are many women who make you wonder, “How did she get rejected?”

Let me answer your question with a question first: What kind of answer were you hoping to get here? Answer 1: Don’t apply again. Answer 2: There’s nothing wrong with applying again. What were you planning to do depending on the answer? Action 1: If you got Answer 1, take the advice and don’t reapply. Action 2: If you got Answer 2, take the advice and reapply. Action 3: Reapply regardless of what anyone says. Here’s my answer: If you’re only as committed as Actions 1 or 2, you probably shouldn’t reapply. The staff will likely see through your hesitation and reject you again at the interview—or even if you pass, your papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) probably won’t go very well. If you’re ready to go with Action 3, then it might be worth applying again. But more fundamentally, if you’re truly committed to Action 3, stop asking questions and just do it already. I think the interviewer can see that hesitation in you. Even if Maezawa-san or Representative Kida had explicitly told you, “You absolutely cannot reapply!” you’d need to apply anyway and then explain at the interview, “The representative and Maezawa-san told me not to, but I genuinely want to pursue papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) for these reasons,” and really make your case. I think a lot of papas would be drawn to that kind of “story.” That’s just my personal opinion, though lol. It’s me.

To be honest, I’ve sometimes looked at the female members featured on a club’s website and thought, “How did she even get registered with that appearance?” Of course, that’s 100% subjective—everyone has different tastes, so someone who’s completely outside my type could be someone else’s absolute ideal. (If she isn’t your type, you simply don’t have to make an offer…) That’s why I get the impression that clubs rank women from a general perspective, but don’t actually reject them based on appearance alone. So if you were rejected at the interview, there’s a possibility it was for reasons other than your looks—for example, repeatedly canceling at the last minute, having an arrogant attitude, or, conversely, being so nervous that you couldn’t have a proper conversation. They may have decided that introducing you to male members would be risky. The “etc.” in “appearance, etc.” may actually be the important part. In any case, if you feel you’ve become more appealing than you were before, why not try going for another interview? I don’t think there’s any rule saying you can’t reapply.

When appearance is the reason, I feel it’s probably limited to Type A women—or Type B or C women who clearly misrepresented themselves as Type A. If the person asking applied as Type A and their appearance has changed significantly, then I suppose it’s not completely impossible.

It’s fine to apply. That said, it’s pretty unusual to fail the interview, since the staff generally conduct interviews with the intention of accepting almost everyone. So if the reason has anything to do with factors other than your appearance, you’ll need to have addressed those issues.
