I feel like I was expecting it somehow—or maybe I wasn’t.
When you’re feeling that way, I think the cure is a little “pseudo-heartbreak.”
P.S. You should also read my column, “The Impermanence of All Things.” I wrote about that kind of thing.

I don’t have that problem.
The point is, you just shouldn’t let the relationship become purely about money.
If you feel she’s becoming too focused on money, sit a little farther away and say, “Maybe we should talk about this,” then create an opportunity to have an honest conversation.
If she wants to continue seeing you, she’ll listen properly. In my case, she initially said, “I don’t want to hear that from some old man,” but lately she’s started saying, “I’ve gained a lot from this, and this relationship isn’t so bad.”
Well, we’re both in our sixties, and I gave up on being handsome a long time ago. It is a relationship where money is part of the equation, but I think the important thing is to make it enjoyable and mutually beneficial for both of you.

There have been some twists and turns, but since this is a relationship that also involves money, I don’t feel empty, at least.

To be honest, I’ve only ever been involved with women who made me feel that our relationship was more than just about money, at least in my mind, so I can’t really understand how you feel.
I think you’re feeling that way because you’re the one thinking, “Why am I being treated like this when I’m paying?” Maybe you should treat her more kindly and avoid having a relationship that leaves you feeling empty.

There was a similar question recently. Does asking the same thing again mean they didn’t read the answers?
