This question has come up several times on this Q&A site. It really depends on the person, but assuming the questioner is male: Think back to when you were in your 20s. How many years older than you did you consider someone “an older woman”? When I was in my teens and twenties, I think I saw someone ten years older as pretty old.

People who ask questions like this are probably older men. I’m just speculating from this point on, but based on the content of your question, are you in your 30s? Since I’m in my 30s as well, I’ll speak from my own limited experience. If you really put effort into looking younger, you can probably pass for around 30. In that case, compared with men in their 40s or older, you may have a relative advantage with women around 22–28, unless they specifically prefer older men or have some other particular preference. However, I think this only works to your advantage if you’re also on equal footing financially. In other words, your age can be an advantage when you offer the same allowance as someone older than you. I think the same thing applies to appearance, too. Because this is papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), after all.

To a middle schooler, anyone who’s graduated from college is basically an old guy. When you’re a student, people are very conscious of age—even a one-year difference can put you in a senior–junior relationship. But once you’re in your 40s, a two- or three-year difference is generally considered being the same age group. Younger women may also start thinking of someone as an “old guy” at around five years older than themselves. As women get older, though, I feel that their idea of what makes someone an “old guy” isn’t based on age alone. It seems that they may also use “old guy” to refer to an older man who lacks cleanliness or doesn’t take care of his appearance.

In this world, there are only handsome men, papas, and everyone else. The title of “papa (a male supporter)” can be bought with money. Everyone else is either an untouchable outcast or nameless. In other words, the category of “older men” doesn’t actually exist in women’s minds, so there’s no point dwelling on it.

Anyone in their thirties or older is an old guy. A woman’s age has nothing to do with it. I honestly think it could be included in the Kōjien dictionary. As women get older, they gradually go from secretly thinking, “Maybe I’m an old lady too,” to being able to casually say out loud, “Well, I’m an old lady too.” Men are probably similar. You’re struggling with that stage, aren’t you? Maybe it’s a kind of developmental disorder. You need treatment. By the way, I feel like sex workers often call their customers “big brother.” Especially the seasoned ones. I still remember hearing, “Aw, you’re a good guy, big brother,” and, “I like you, big brother. Call me again.” They were straightforward, warm words, delivered so casually. Maybe it wasn’t despite the fact that these women have difficult jobs, endure unpleasant things, and have their precious dignity taken from them every day—but precisely because of it—that I found it wonderful how they could say the important words directly and effortlessly when it mattered. I think you should go out and have all kinds of experiences, not just through dating clubs. Do more of the things you can’t tell people about or feel embarrassed by. If you haven’t developed in that area, then develop it. Once you do, you’ll become comfortable with all sorts of things, and I think life will feel more natural and enjoyable. There isn’t much information in the question, so sorry if I’ve got it wrong. It’s enough if you just think, “This old guy is using the question as an excuse to talk about himself.” Since I’m a piece of shit, being treated like a human being is an unexpected joy. Though, come to think of it, shit is also part of the human body before it comes out. Why do you all look down on it and call it dirty? (And there I go wildly off-topic again.) Taro

Men who don’t pay any attention to skincare start looking noticeably older around 30, while those who take aging care seriously usually don’t show it until around 40. Many men don’t use sunscreen or moisturizer at all, so I think the effects of UV exposure start becoming glaringly obvious around their early thirties.

I’m a female member, Potassium. (In my late 20s.) When I think of men in their 40s and up, I picture the typical “older guy” image I’ve always known—but I don’t judge based on a specific age. Whether I think of a man as an “older guy” depends on the person I meet: his appearance, cleanliness, personality, and whether he can accept others as they are. A little aside: I’m the youngest person on my team, and everyone else is a man aged 53 or older. But my favorite guy on the team doesn’t seem like an older guy to me at all. Meanwhile, men the same age as him do look like older guys to me. When my favorite guy tells me, “You work so fast! As expected of you! Good job!” I’m just like, “Fwooooooo!” and want to ask him to pat me on the head. (I can’t say that, though, because it would be reverse sexual harassment.) ※If reading this makes you think, “Oh, there’s an employee like that,” and you try patting a female employee on the head, that’s sexual harassment—and it makes you a creepy older guy. Please be warned. In this world, nobody beats my favorite guy. The moment he smiles at me, I’m like, “Ahhh, precious, precious, precious!” And if he says, “Do you think you can do it, Pota?” I’d be like, “Aaaaaah, I’ll see it through even if it kills me, woof!” But dying would cause trouble, so when my time comes, I’ll go get lost on some mountain somewhere. Don’t worry about me. Thinking about my favorite guy made me ramble way too much. I love him so much~ Just my personal opinion.

Why not ask, “I’m 45—up to what age do you think women would still see me as a man?” Do the members of Arashi look like old men to you or not? There’s just so much to pick apart here. In other words, everyone already sees you as an older man, so just focus on competing with your money and put your mind at ease.

Are they really all the same person?? You’re an old man at 30, a grandpa at 50, and a fossil at 70... That’s exactly why it’s fine to make an effort and make up for it.
