If you already have a favorite, do you feel even a little sorry or guilty about making an offer to someone new? Or do you feel nothing at all?

I’m Date◎Yume, a male member. I’m a one-woman-at-a-time kind of guy, so while I’m seeing someone, I don’t make offers to start a new relationship. It’s not necessarily because I’m extremely attached to her; there are also various practical reasons, and I prefer to keep the number of women I see to a minimum. When I date this way, the woman gradually comes to understand how I approach relationships. Then she starts thinking, “I actually prefer being with the woman I’m currently seeing,” and it becomes a situation where I can say, “Just let me know anytime if you ever want to stop.” There’s an age gap of more than 40 years, so I expected her to get tired of me, but we’re still together after three years. When she first appeared in front of me, she seemed like a princess, and I thought, “No way, this won’t work.” But once we actually started seeing each other, I realized she was a woman I could trust. Sometimes you can’t judge someone by their appearance alone.

I’m Fuu, a columnist. I deliberately try not to have one particular favorite who stands head and shoulders above the rest. If jealousy or other complicated feelings came up, I’d hate it—and I wouldn’t want to make the other person feel uncomfortable either. I make an offer when I’ve said goodbye to someone in my rotation of ongoing partners. The women who remain in my rotation have boyfriends or other papas (or I assume they do), so I don’t feel guilty about it.

I’m Paper Airplane, a male member. If I felt that way, I probably wouldn’t make any new offers… “Super” might not quite be enough. Maybe “butterflies”… Hmm, no, that’s not it—“super-super,” I mean. You’d probably need to put “super” two or three times before “favorite,” wouldn’t you? I might only stop making offers after sending out a truly huge number of them and finally meeting a girl who’s my ultimate favorite. It may be difficult for either one alone to be enough… It would be when I started thinking, “I’ll probably never meet anyone who surpasses her,” or “There’s no point in making offers when I already have her.” That’s when I’d lose both the motivation to make offers and the desire to keep looking…

I’m Mac, a male member. It would be against the rules, so it can’t be done, but ideally, you’d look through the album with your absolute favorite girl and choose the next one to make an offer to. Apparently, that’s how the harems in Arabia worked. Lately, when I’m considering a new offer, I give the college student I’ve met the most often a general idea of the kind of girl I’m looking for—without going against the rules—and ask for her opinion. She profiles the woman in ways I wouldn’t notice myself, and she’s often spot-on, so it’s interesting, useful, and educational. It really makes me realize how much I’ve only been seeing the superficial aspects of women. Honestly, this would make a fascinating column, but it’s too revealing and would cause too many problems, so I can’t write about it. Anyway, betraying a woman’s affection is wrong, but jealousy can be controlled. Feeling guilty is about responding to someone’s affection, so the person asking this question shouldn’t be embarrassed by a misguided assumption.
