When someone is slow to respond, how long is generally considered acceptable—anywhere from a few hours to a few days? Also, can you tell when someone is intentionally taking a long time to reply?

I’m Flagmaker, a columnist. Some people are quick to respond, while others are slow, so when it comes to slow responders, I don’t think you should worry about it too much. In the end, it comes down to deciding how much you’re personally willing to put up with.

I’m Seattle, a male member. Most women are slow to reply. My male friends usually get back to me within an hour, though. I imagine it would be tough if she were your only option. A lot of women also deliberately take their time as part of the game. Back in the app days, it seemed like almost everyone did that. Since joining Universe, I can just move on to someone else, so it doesn’t really bother me. I don’t mind waiting up to about two days, but after that, I start losing interest.

I’m Adventure Merchant, a column writer. Speaking of after the relationship has begun—not the initial setup—the acceptable range is probably around three days at most. I once dated a woman who went more than 20 days without contacting me, yet for some reason I was able to forgive it. In the end, though, her poor responsiveness was one of the reasons we parted ways. People who take an extremely long time to respond do tend to have difficulty maintaining a long-term relationship.

I’m Hikokibune, a male member. So this was about communication during an ongoing arrangement, not an offer. For Type A women, replies usually come within a few minutes to half a day—around 15 minutes on average—and frequent exchanges happen almost every day. For Type B women, replies usually take anywhere from a few hours to a day, generally a few hours to half a day. Frequent exchanges are only occasional. For Type C women, replies usually come within a few minutes to a day, generally taking a few hours to half a day. Other than arranging meetups, there’s no frequent communication. When I’m seeing someone I’m close with, I don’t mind if she takes a while to reply. And if it’s someone I only see occasionally, I don’t mind even if she takes quite a long time. But when you’re just starting to get close, a day feels very long, so if she’s someone you’re especially interested in, I think it’s better to reply as soon as possible. As for responding to an offer, I think it should be fine as long as you communicate properly with the club. I’m willing to wait as long as necessary. There was one woman I made an offer to whom I never got to meet because the club told me she had been forcibly removed for being slow to respond. I assume she had simply left the club’s messages unanswered. There was also someone whose rating was lowered for being unresponsive while waiting to hear back about an offer. (When I met women like that, they clearly didn’t appreciate that the club was full of such attractive women. Needless to say, I never met them a second time.) The club is a business, too, so they seem to be much stricter than you might expect with people who aren’t cooperative about setting up meetings. From the man’s perspective, spending ¥100,000–¥200,000 just to meet someone once is a considerable amount of money, so I suppose this is also necessary for building trust. P.S. The woman who replied fastest—within a few dozen minutes—was the only one who stood me up without notice on the day of our meeting. Responding too quickly can be surprising too, but I think some kind of reply to the club should be given within one to two hours, or at least by the end of the day.
