When I search Twitter for “papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan)” or “p-katsu,” I see so many incredible posts that I start to feel pressured. How much of it is actually true?

Gross!” Those were some of the posts I found. ・“I made hundreds of thousands of yen in three days!” → That may happen for a very small number of papa-katsu professionals, but generally, I think these are just unrealistic clickbait posts. Maybe it’s part of a scout’s scheme. ・“It’s unbelievable if he doesn’t take me to a fancy restaurant!” → It seems that most papas do take their partners to nice restaurants, but I think you also need to make an effort to become someone who merits being taken to such places. ・“Papa-katsu means getting tens of thousands of yen just for a meal!” → I suppose it varies from person to person, but personally, I’d say: Please come back to the real world!! I don’t see how that’s different from paid socializing over drinks... ・“I met someone with a weird fetish!” → Well, of course there are people like that... ・“He told me he seriously wanted to date me! Gross!” → That’s certainly possible too—but I think it can happen with both men and women. It’s best to set clear boundaries for yourself so you can protect yourself.
