Of course, the quicker the response, the better, but in my case, I distinguish between practical messages—such as arranging a date—and general communication.
When arranging a date, I can’t make my own plans until things are decided, so slow responses can be very stressful. With general conversation, though, we can simply message each other when it’s convenient, so I don’t really mind if a couple of days go by.
Looking back at the people I’m currently seeing, scheduling has always gone smoothly with everyone.
They also let me know when they’re handling a major project that will keep them working through the night, or when they have an overseas business trip. Since I understand why their responses may be delayed, I can go about my days without feeling stressed.
I think it’s important to communicate while keeping the other person’s situation in mind.
As for the question, “How long does it take for them to reply?”:
The quickest is about 10 minutes.
Even at the slowest, unless there’s a special circumstance, I usually get a reply within 24 hours.
I’m a male member based in Seattle.
I don’t particularly care about how quickly someone responds, but in the end, people who reply promptly are definitely more reliable.
If someone hasn’t read or replied to my message within 24 hours, I often just let things fade out.
