A woman I met before apparently told the staff during her interview that she liked cooking. When they asked what she had cooked the day before, she answered, “Gratin,” and the staff wrote in the comments, “Her specialty is gratin!”
When I told her about the staff comment, she laughed half-heartedly and indignantly said, “That’s a lie!”
That made me think the staff comments must be intended as a joke. Am I wrong?
No, that’s not right—you’ve got it wrong.
If a woman tells the staff that she enjoys cooking, she may not be able to answer when they ask, “What’s your specialty?” It’s perfectly normal to like cooking in general without having one particular favorite dish.
Since that alone wouldn’t give them anything to write in her profile comment, they may have asked, “What did you cook yesterday?” If she answered, “I had gratin yesterday,” it’s entirely possible they concluded that, since she likes cooking in general, gratin must be one of her specialties—and wrote:
“My specialty is gratin!”
You clearly don’t understand that this wasn’t just done to get a reaction, or how much effort the staff put into drawing out information so they could write the woman’s comment. Though I suppose you don’t really need to know.
More importantly, there’s the part that says:
“When I told the woman about the staff comment…”
You should have been told when you joined that you must not do that. Did you forget?
If you can’t even follow the rules, you’re not fit to be a member, so please withdraw.
And really, openly admitting to breaking the rules just because you’re anonymous… What a problem.

Rather than trying to get a laugh, I think they described it as her “specialty” to make her sound a little better, since she likes cooking and had made gratin the day before.
The staff probably also wanted the male member to meet her in person and get her talking about her cooking specialties. Just as they’d hoped, you were able to talk about her specialty—so that worked out nicely（笑）
Don’t sweat the small stuff! Some women don’t get any offers, so the staff are working hard to somehow turn things into an offer.
