When starting papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) through a dating club such as Universe Club, it’s very important to avoid trouble and risks while staying safe and protecting yourself. Here are the main points to keep in mind:
Safety and protecting yourself
- To avoid being identified, don’t share personal information such as your real name, address, workplace, or school.
- Don’t tell them your home address or nearest station, and decline rides home.
- Share the date of your meeting and the other person’s information with a trusted friend.
- Don’t go straight to a hotel or private room until you’ve assessed their sincerity and agreed on the allowance terms.
- Limit how much you drink. It’s dangerous if someone gets you drunk and you lose your judgment.
- Don’t post on social media in real time.
Money and negotiating terms
- Confirm the payment terms—including the amount and timing—in advance.
- Don’t rely on a verbal agreement alone. Make a note of the initial terms so you don’t forget them.
- Payment on the day is the rule. Delayed payment or “I’ll pay you all at once next time” can lead to trouble.
- “I forgot to bring the money” is a red flag.
- Don’t trust promises like “I’ll pay you later.”
Communication
- Be mindful of your language and manners, and act reasonably.
- If the other person is married or has a prominent position, such as a business owner, be sure to respect their need for confidentiality.
- Relationships tend to last longer with people who can say “thank you” and show consideration.
- It’s also important not to become overly dependent or expect too much from the other person.
Avoiding trouble
- Clearly refuse unreasonable requests. Have the courage to say no to anything you don’t want to do.
- Distance yourself early from anyone who is violent, obsessive, or excessively controlling.
- Never lend or borrow money or let anyone use your name. You could become involved in fraud or other crimes.
- Stay alert for hidden cameras or recordings, and make sure you haven’t been filmed or photographed without your knowledge.
- Keep evidence, such as your LINE messages, in case anything happens.
Your approach
- Decide your personal “okay” and “not okay” boundaries from the start.
- Be clear about your goal: whether you want to make money in the short term or build a long-term relationship.
- Keep romance and this transactional relationship separate so you don’t become too emotionally involved.
- Don’t force yourself to do anything just for money, and don’t undervalue yourself.
That’s about it, I think.

As others have mentioned, it’s best not to be late or reschedule an interview. If something unavoidable comes up, make sure to let them know in advance.
Sometimes the speed of your replies up to that point is also noted, so taking too long can leave a bad impression. Keep that in mind.
Trying too hard to cover things up—or pushing yourself to act a certain way just to get an offer—can lead to problems later. Be honest during the interview about what you’re comfortable with and decide based on that.
Rather than taking everything you see on social media at face value, just be yourself, go in naturally, and wait for an offer afterward!
I hope you meet someone great. Hope this helps.

Things to be careful about during the interview:
① Don’t be late.
Depending on the circumstances, being late can be enough to fail the interview on its own.
Actually, there are some strange staff members who say, “I’m definitely rejecting her,” the moment they receive a message saying someone will be late.
They’re not exactly typical staff, but according to this particular person, “She’ll probably do the same thing even after receiving an offer, so rejecting her is better than causing trouble for the man.”
It sounds reasonable at first glance, but people can get lost, and there must be men who are willing to overlook that. So I do feel that rejecting someone solely for being late is a bit much.
Still, since there are staff members like that, it’s best not to be late.
If you tend to get lost, you might want to make arrangements to arrive 30 minutes early.
(That said, sometimes the previous woman’s interview still hasn’t finished when you arrive 30 minutes early, which can be inconvenient. Even so, arriving early will never count against you.)
② Don’t treat the staff as if they’re separate from an actual date.
Sometimes women think, “I can behave properly when I meet a man,” and take a completely different attitude during the interview with the staff.
But they only recommend women to men if the staff themselves think she would be a good match.
So you need to be polite and professional with the staff as well—almost as if you’re putting on an act.
If you think, “Maybe this staff member will recommend me to a man,” then it becomes easier to treat them politely.
Of course, there are also women who receive a fair number of offers simply by being listed on the members’ page, even though the staff didn’t specifically recommend them—I assume they didn’t consider them a particularly recommended woman.
Sometimes I see these women bring snacks when they come in for a reshoot and say, “Thank you for recommending me.”
And I think, “Hmm... that staff member didn’t recommend her at all, though...”
But according to that staff member:
“It happened because my customer service was so wonderful.”
So sometimes I’m left thinking, “That doesn’t really make sense...”
Well, the woman may actually know the truth and be saying it deliberately. If so, she’s quite something.
> “Have you heard of the anime *My Happy Marriage*?”
It has a bit of a fantasy element, but maybe people liked the setup of the woman being devoted to her husband—or perhaps her fiancé.

If you’re asked, “Do you have any other papas?” or “Do you have a boyfriend?” just say “No” to both.
The people answering here are all papa-katsu veterans, so they don’t care whether you have other papas or a boyfriend. In fact, many think it’s easier to maintain an arrangement when everyone knows the truth.
But that’s basically a niche preference, and most papas want to have you all to themselves. So use that psychology to your advantage and get them properly hooked.
A lie can be a form of loving kindness.
As for me, there’s been a major shake-up in the rankings. Since it’s a papa’s duty to go all out and take care of you when you’re in trouble, I’m making the girl currently ranked fourth tied for first place—for now.

Don’t go for a second meeting with a man who won’t give you ¥50,000.
If he says he’ll pay later, tell him you’re short on money and insist on taking the cash home that day.

The best thing would be not to read this site at all.
Being inexperienced and fresh-faced is more appealing than anything. Once you gain information and knowledge, those qualities gradually fade, and the joy and excitement do too.
Also, papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) isn’t something people openly discuss in mainstream society, so there’s no need to pursue it deliberately.
You still have plenty of opportunities to make a living and thrive through work or other pursuits.
Unless you truly need it, I think it’s perfectly fine to live a life where you test your own potential.
You only get one life, so you have plenty of options.
I don’t know whether this was a baited question, but I hope you make the most of your life.
