If you don’t share personal information, don’t you run out of things to talk about? I suppose it depends on the person, but if the conversation doesn’t flow, the relationship won’t last either. It would be great to meet a woman with plenty of experience and knowledge who can keep up with all kinds of topics, but if that’s not the case, what do you usually do?

Are there really no interesting topics to talk about unless you share personal information, such as your name, phone number, or address? For example, you can talk about hobbies—movies, sports, music, and so on—without sharing any personal information. You can also explain what you do for work or use it as a conversation topic without revealing identifying details. Whether the other person engages with a topic probably depends on what you’re talking about, as well as various factors like how the man communicates and how curious the woman is. However, I don’t really think whether personal information is shared has much to do with it.

Does that mean he seems bored if the conversation doesn’t keep flowing? Even if you’re not talking much, dozing peacefully in the passenger seat while you’re on the move, both of you busy on your phones, accidentally sleeping for hours together, unable to get a reservation, or having nowhere to go— Wouldn’t it be more important to be a woman who can enjoy herself no matter what you’re doing… or, even better, to become someone your partner feels that way about? Also— For the first few meetings, the conversation should naturally be lively and keep flowing, whoever the person is. If it doesn’t, there may be a pretty serious problem on your end.

I think it’s a mistake not to look at your phone during a date. If both of you are constantly glued to your phones, you’ll never run out of things to talk about.

Since I often go on dates without an adult relationship, and we decide what to do together with the woman, I’m always looking for date spots within a one- to two-hour trip from Tokyo. Even when we run out of things to talk about, we sometimes watch YouTube together.

If by “personal information” you mean information that can identify a specific individual—such as their name or date of birth, as defined under Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information—you shouldn’t have any trouble finding things to talk about without sharing it. That said, if you also consider details like age, hometown, or occupation to be personal information because combining them could identify someone, then I suppose it might sometimes be difficult to find a starting point for conversation. I believe the purpose of a first date isn’t to start a relationship, but to decide whether the other person is someone you’d actually like to date. So I don’t pursue things with someone I couldn’t have an engaging conversation with. Also, you mention women who have a wealth of experience and knowledge and can keep up with all kinds of topics. I think it would be good to consider whether, from a woman’s perspective, you’re the kind of man who can bring up a variety of interesting topics yourself.

Do whatever you like. If you think the conversation won’t continue, then go ahead and share your personal information. Blaming others is such a classic self-centered move. So everything is the other person’s fault, huh? LOL. This isn’t a hostess club—you can’t just say, “She’s not interesting, so bring me someone else.” LOL. With a gentlemanly male member, the man should take the lead. He should gauge the woman’s interests, keep the conversation going, and make it enjoyable for her. That said, not everyone is a good match. Even if the man provides topics, if the conversation still just won’t continue, isn’t it fine to say goodbye there? Personally, I wouldn’t share personal information when it involves taking that kind of risk.
