Some government agencies classify people aged 40 to 64 as middle-aged and provide support, viewing it as a turning point in life.
Once you’re in your 50s, you’re obviously an older man—and, if we’re being frank, you’re getting closer to being a grandpa.
From your own perspective, though, you don’t notice the changes from one day to the next. Even after turning 40 or 50, you may not feel any more mature and still feel young.

For someone in their 40s, would a 60-year-old woman—20 years older—seem like an older woman or a grandmother?
Everyone sees things differently, but I think you should carefully observe the other person, their position, and their perspective, consider how they see you, and act accordingly.
Of course, even among people in their 40s, some look younger thanks to their overall cleanliness and appearance—especially the amount, color, and style of their hair, clear skin, and lack of body odor...

To a woman in her late teens, someone in their mid-20s is already more than old enough to be considered an “older woman.”
That’s why being just 5–10 years older can make someone seem like an “older man” or “older woman.”
For those of us in our 40s, a five- or ten-year age gap may not seem significant, but understanding that younger people can see things very differently is the key to making the relationship work.
In other words, if you’re dealing with a woman in her 20s or 30s, assume that she naturally sees someone in their 40s as an “older man,” and act accordingly.
