The question below was cut off. I believe it’s only natural for men to take financial responsibility for women in romantic relationships, marriage, and papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), but what makes papa-katsu different?

Papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) may be similar to working in the adult entertainment or nightlife industry. You can talk at work about being married or dating someone, but you’d probably feel too embarrassed to say that you’re doing papa-katsu. That’s because most people receive an allowance in exchange for an adult relationship (intimate).

The fact that it doesn’t create any legal responsibility. In that sense, no matter how much you dress it up, it ultimately comes down to money, I suppose. Akari

Romantic relationships and marriages can often continue even without someone providing sufficient financial support. With papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan)—or, more specifically, an allowance-based arrangement—it generally won’t continue unless the allowance is paid. Leaving romance aside, I think the financial responsibilities and amounts involved in marriage are generally far greater than those in an allowance-based arrangement. Another key difference is that marriage is a legally protected relationship, unlike dating or allowance-based arrangements.
