If you think about it normally, a love hotel is somewhere people go to have sex, while a city hotel could mean they might have sex—but they might also just be having a business meeting.
So if you were caught in a scoop—or seen by someone you know—which one would be easier to explain away?
Probably the city hotel.
Of course, if you were with a woman, people would assume you had sex. Even so, at a city hotel, you could insist that you were only talking.
On the other hand, even if you hadn’t actually done anything, people would assume you had sex if you were at a love hotel.
That’s how I see it.
Love hotels used to offer all kinds of entertainment, at least up until the bubble era—karaoke, game consoles, and sometimes even indoor pools.
But these days, hotels that focus on that kind of entertainment don’t really appear anymore. Even when they have game consoles, they’re often something like a PlayStation 2, as if they’re only there as remnants of the past.

With a city hotel, the impression is more of using it for an ordinary date or romantic relationship.
I’ve never had a woman refuse to go to the room after I said, “I’ve got a room booked for us” (even though I hadn’t actually booked one yet…).
Anyway, the allure and power of city hotels are incredible.
At a club, the purpose is simply to see whether you’re compatible (and hand over the allowance), so if you want to build up the mood, wouldn’t a love hotel be the better choice?
Also, before COVID, groups of foreign tourists used to visit love hotels, so I think they’ll probably become popular as colorful, lively hotels. At a glance, their flashy exteriors can even remind you of USJ or Disneyland… if you don’t understand the language or what they mean. I sometimes see foreign tourists taking commemorative photos in front of nightlife information booths without realizing what they are.

Both are embarrassing, honestly. So I’d really appreciate it if you could avoid hesitating or keeping me waiting, and just handle things smoothly and confidently.

City hotels can feel pretty awkward, can’t they?
Personally, if the purpose is a love hotel, I’d choose a love hotel. The poor soundproofing is just too much of a downside for me.
I use city hotels when I want to spend longer having tea or stay overnight for leisure. I especially like rooms where you can enjoy the view from the bath.
On those occasions, we enjoy things like having fun from behind while looking down through the window, or playing at the door where our voices might be heard—making the most of the weaker soundproofing.
Love hotels are designed specifically for that purpose, and I feel that even slightly more expensive ones tend to offer more thoughtful amenities. For around ¥7,000 for a short stay, you can even get rooms with features that really get the girl excited.

I’ve been using them for sex since my twenties, so I never really thought much of it. Couples going into a love hotel are practically wearing a sign around their necks saying, “We’re about to have sex,” so personally, I find love hotels more embarrassing.
