I’d go home and cry into my pillow, thinking, “It’s not like I chose to go bald...” Haha. I’m not trying to blame the woman who asked the question. If someone just isn’t attracted to a certain look, that can’t be helped. This kind of mismatch happens because women are given so little information about male members beforehand. That’s why I think we should try to reduce mismatches before meeting, even if only a little. For my own protection, I would write on my profile: “I’m bald and grow a beard, so people say I look like Shigeru Izumiya. If I’m not your type on a visceral level, please feel free to decline.” But some female members may not read the profiles, and some male members may not write anything on theirs. While I was a member, a woman told me that my introduction said, “has short hair.” That wasn’t technically a lie. I understand that the club was trying to be considerate, but at the time I wondered whether that wording really conveyed the truth to women. If the club gave women more specific information about a male member’s less appealing features, it might prevent mismatches to some extent. Instead of “has short hair,” for example, it could say, “has short, thinning hair.” Of course, if specific information gets back to male members, there’s a risk they might complain. Even if women were asked to keep it confidential, the information could still get out. That said, I feel it’s more important to prevent mismatches that could have been avoided with information available in advance. I understand this post itself may be deleted quickly, but I felt even more sympathy for the male member than for the person who asked the question, so I decided to post it.
