Taking the pill increases the risk of blood clots, and for smokers, that risk doubles. Since it creates a hormonal state similar to pregnancy, it can also make you more prone to feeling unwell, along with nausea, headaches, fatigue, and other symptoms. Some women may be unable to take it even if they want to, either because it doesn’t suit their body or because they develop blood clots.
