I’m not sure how long I should wait before replying on LINE. I’m worried that replying too quickly will make me seem too eager, but if I take too long, they might think I’m not interested and cut me off. What do you think is an appropriate response time?

To put it bluntly, if you’re in your 40s, I feel like there are probably countless other things you should be thinking about. Though that’s just my impression.

I reply as quickly as I can. I don’t play games or anything like that. If I’m working or otherwise busy, I don’t rush to respond. I take as long as necessary, depending on the message. I’ve never found it particularly stressful. I don’t send follow-up messages unless they’re necessary.

I don’t worry about it at all either(笑) Just send a message whenever you have the time! That’s really all there is to it. We’re both busy, so unless it’s urgent, I usually message her once I’ve finished a major task at work. Basically, we aim for one exchange a day(笑)

I’m not worried about it. I’m comfortable going at my own pace, and they can go at theirs. If that’s stressful for either of us, then I think it’s best to part ways.

He asked me if there were any times when it would be inconvenient for him to message me on LINE, so I said anytime was fine. Then he started sending me long messages and tons of photos every day, which became overwhelming. He mostly talked about places he’d visited, like museums, and books he’d read. It was exhausting just trying to read everything, and since he was retired and had plenty of free time, he’d even message me while I was working. It became too stressful, so I gradually faded out of contact. As long as he doesn’t do anything that inconsiderate, I think it should be fine to some extent. Marika

I don’t think there’s a single ideal interval that works for everyone.

As a general rule of thumb, if they take three minutes to reply, you can reply in three or four minutes, then gradually start taking about a minute longer each time. Once you’re both getting bored, just wrap up the conversation for the day. That said, you don’t need to be too strict about it. It’s a waste of energy to worry over something like that. How things are when you meet in person is a hundred times more important than LINE. If you can’t get along face-to-face, no messaging technique will make you close.

If you’re unsure, just message them at the same intervals they message you.

That obviously depends on the person. Try asking the woman you’re seeing.
